entry 1 - progress.html creation

it's been around three weeks since i've last made any edits to The Jouse 3 video.
before my "hiatus," i've recorded up to before LI, and had commentary going up to before RU.
the video aims to be a "definitive edition" of sorts to all prior Jouse showcase videos. you'll see what i mean eventually.
it's been a mix of burnout and having been distracted with work, as well as playing kirby air riders and myths are 100% true.

still working on it, however! slowly but surely, this video will get finished. no matter what.

anyways, this page will be used as an updater for my progress on the video, since i want to actually get it done again.
check back often and there may be a new entry with some progress screenshots or full segments!
i will not post anything too spoilery for those who care about re-experiencing The Jouse 3 through this video, so do not expect many full video segments past FL/DR.
i'm hoping maintaining this will fight against my burnout on this project. Jouse always drains me near the end.

here's the first part as a reward for finding this page!
(it may take a second to load. be patient.)

entry 2 - "definitive edition?"

as mentioned in entry 1, this video is going to be a "definitive edition" of sorts to every Jouse showcase video. what do i mean by this?
well, most importantly, every Jouse showcase has been on either a heavily incomplete version, or has not had one at all.

Jouse 1, rest in piece, never had its finalized version preserved in any way before the server it was on was shut off without any world backup. its only showcase was missing half its switches and at least 4 new variants as well as the ending.
Jouse 2 never got a showcase due to it being both the black sheep of the quartet and having the least content.
Jouse 3's two showcase videos are both heavily outdated in different ways before i reset the world.
...and Jouse 0, the only truly lost version, just had a barebones version of PA using what is now SL's block palette.

one of the other reasons i consider this to be a "definitive edition" is because i wanted to polish up some of the edges i thought were rougher than should've been..
i feel like some things with RR needed to be patched up, but not in a way that kills the mystique or ambiguity of it all. think of it more as giving context to some scenarios and expanding upon some characters that didn't have much screentime beforehand. surely you know who i'm talking about.

anyways, here's my end of the bargain. my favorite running gag and a look into SL. the next entry will be posted whenever i make actual progress on the video, and it will have the next audio layer attached.

entry 3 - caught up with the main things!

i think this blog is actually helping get me back into things. today, before and after work, i finished up the commentary for RU, NE, and WR, meaning all footage i already had recorded is finished!
this means all i need to do is record LI and RR footage, which will take a bit due to how much is in these parts, and also my fucked work schedule for this week.

as a peek under the hood, the way i've gone about recording variants is to do it piece-by-piece, meaning i would record a variant in its entirety and any traversal footage leading to the next, but i would end the recording directly in front of the wanderer painting.

this is probably the best way i could've done it since i need to consider music timing & other things in the back of my mind while capturing footage, and also not to overload myself with things to comment and induce burnout faster.
all in all, i'm just glad to be working on this again without it feeling like a slog. we'll see how long that lasts, as i tend to make things on the fly. (most notably, all of RR was completely winged, for better or for worse)

attached here are the video segments for PA and FL/DR, as well as screenshots for RU, NE, and WR.

entry 4 - the halfway point

it's been around 4 days since i've last made any edits to The Jouse 3 video. work has been kicking my ass lately but it is what it is
anyways i locked in basically as soon as i got home and finished recording/editing all of LI and am currently thinking of a way to lead into RR. i can rest a bit easy now knowing that i'm officially at the halfway mark of the entire video!

i recorded a bit to tease RR and how to access it, it was loosely based off the previous showcase's version of it but my main motivator was making a decent version of that instead of awkwardly fumbling with my file browser completely uncensored.

anyways, more about progress... i haven't talked about it here, but FK is completely devoid of any burger commentary, since it is a relatively important variant. i decided to do the same for LI, so you won't be hearing him for a while to let things sink in a bit easier.
also, just for comparison, FK's segment is 9 minutes. even while taking my time, LI's segment is only 5 minutes.

i'm running out of things to use as spoilers without posting actual spoilers, so here is the never-before-seen full video segment for OV/RU and an image of the important part in LI.

entry 5 - i wanna be the entry

entry 4 was originally going to be here, and that one would've been the filler instead of this. and then i locked in and made progress lol
right now i've been stumped trying to figure out how i could handle like... the entirety of RR...

right now, my basic requirements for RR are...

1. not have access be a sudden thing like the previous showcase video, a buildup would work wonders i feel
2. find a smooth way to handle getting the unsplit memo6 in
3. find a way to integrate shed.html and route.html in a digestible fashion, especially memo7
4. tie up any loose ends in a "better than good enough" way, even if it isn't very sweet

i'm also heavily debating on whether or not i should let burger speak during RR.
i feel like out of anything in any iteration of the jouse, RR especially has the most amount of things to go through but i'm afraid he will be speaking non-stop for half of it, and i really want viewers to actually read the memos.

i dunno. it's a very tricky puzzle to handle for me.
i would ask for help but i don't want to rely on others for such a personal project past getting the groundwork polished.
...so i'm deciding now that i won't make entry 6 until i've got a grasp on how to do it!

anyways here's a part of NE's video segment and an image of the core because i liked building the area

entry 6 - one-step-closer (new!) [SPOILER-ISH]

wow, has it really been a month? jeez, sorry about that...
before i get into this entry, i want to say now that i will be dropping the spoiler-free nature of these entries just a tad, mainly because i'm very excited about all of this. if you're not okay with this, feel free to skip this one, as the next is likely to be just a final sendoff kind of thing.

anyways, i've figured out how i-or, rather, we-will be handling redroute.
i've got some of my friends together to do voices for it! i'm confident in the cast, even if it was a bit hastily made, and i'm sure we'll all do great.
for the uninitiated, redroute is a sort of extension of the jouse to fill in the narrative gap i left somewhere in the first layer.

now, i want to stress this more than ever by saying that this video was never meant to be a highly-polished thing. it's rough, and that's how i intend it to be, since it all comes from a very raw place.
it's basically my garn47, in the sense that it's just a vent project with a ton of room for reader interpretation. and if you pay attention to some segments, you'll start noticing it, though i don't plan to make anything "in your face", obviously.

as a loose rundown, it's a sort of interactive story about a person wanting to cover their tracks and lose themselves. though the main character isn't the focus throughout the majority of redroute, their presence is known to all the characters who are tied up in finding her for each of their own reasons. some selfish, some out of desperation, and some ultierior.
the way it's handled in-game is kinda-sorta linear, but you can realistically fuck around and end up at the final area almost immediately if you've been paying close enough attention.

with that out of the way, i'd like to give my thanks to the people who helped me with redroute, despite this being a project done by myself. i won't name anyone yet, but you know who you are.

here's a bit of the redroute intro, as well as some miscellaneous screenshots. sorry for making you wait so long! i promise i haven't been slacking!
